VILLE PLATTE-Funeral Services will be held at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Monday, October 26, 2020, for Bernita Ortego LaFleur, 98, who passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 in Vidrine, LA surrounded by her loved ones. Father Billy Massie will be the celebrant of the mass.
Entombment will take place in Gates of Heaven Mausoleum.
Bernita Ortego Lafleur was born in Washington, LA on August 25,1922 to Norbert Lee and Amalise Ortego. Bernita was a devout catholic and an active parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Sacred Heart and Come Lord Jesus. Bernita worked for many years at G. Ardoin’s in sales. She was also a substitute teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School. Bernita loved playing cards and dancing. She was a devoted mother and wife and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Bernita is survived by her daughters, Joan Dannie Lafleur of Lafayette and Kerry Lafleur Higginbotham and husband, Ray, of Vidrine; 9 grandchildren: Mitchell Broussard, Leah Judice, Nicole Faulk, Brandy Nereaux, Dane Broussard, John Higginbotham, Robin Berzas, Nicholas Higginbotham, and Joshua Higginbotham; 14 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Jane Courville of New Iberia, Sylvia Veillon of New Iberia, and Patsy Dupre of Grand Prairie, LA.
Bernita is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dudley J. Lafleur; her parents, Norbert Lee and Amalise Ortego; two brothers, Allen Ortego and Huey (Chunk) Ortego; and one sister, Ruby Ortego Ardoin.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Chuck Ortego at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, October 26, 2020 from 8:00 AM until time of Service.
Pallbearers to serve shall be John Higginbotham, Nicholas Higginbotham, Joshua Higginbotham, Leonard Judice, Joey Faulk, and Kyle Nereaux, along with honorary pallbearers, Mitchell Broussard, Dane Broussard, and Phillip Berzas.
The family would like to thank Prairie Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful care of their mother/grandmother for the past seven years, as well as Dr. Oscar Rodriguez and Savoy Hospital and Hospice of Acadiana for their compassionate care.
