VILLE PLATTE – A mass of Christian burial will be held for Catherine “Cathy” Marie Andrus Chapman, 59, at 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Father Tom Voorhies will be celebrant of the Mass. Burial will take place in Belaire Cove Cemetery.

Catherine “Cathy” Marie Andrus Chapman, a lifelong resident of Ville Platte, went to rest in the loving arms of Jesus on March 20, 2023, at the age of 59. She was born on January 17, 1964, in Ville Platte, LA, to Levy Andrus and Mary Belle G. Andrus Ellis.

Cathy was a high school business teacher, spending her entire career at Ville Platte High School. She went above and beyond the call of being a teacher, helping her students immensely. During her time at VPHS, she was the FBLA advisor for several years. A graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Cathy went on to obtain her associate degree in accounting at Coreil Technical College before attending USL and earning her bachelor’s degree in education.

Cathy loved gardening, especially growing gerbera daisies and calla lilies. She also enjoyed antique shopping, hiking and sightseeing. Vacationing to various locations to explore God’s landscapes was one of her many pleasures. She adored visiting with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a compassionate and caring woman, someone who always extended a helping hand to anyone in need. Cathy leaves behind a life lived with a legacy of love towards others.

Cathy was married to Andrew Chapman for an extremely blessed 40 years. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Julie Chapman Welch and son-in-law Derrick; her grandchildren, Amelia, Levi, and Amy; her sister, Delores Soileau, and a host of relatives and many close friends.

Cathy joins in Heaven her children, Justin, Amy, and Brian Chapman, and her parents, Levy Andrus and Mary Belle G. Andrus Ellis.

At the request of the family, visitation will be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Tim Donovan Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
