Lorraine Leonards Fontenot, 56, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Lorraine was born on July 5, 1966, in Ville Platte to Wilfred Charles Leonards and Elaine Credeur Leonards. Lorraine had an amazing ability to listen with a heart of compassion and understanding of love. Lorraine strove for deep emotional connections with family and friends. Her precious children, grandchildren, and husband brought her so much joy and happiness.
She was a loving and supportive sister, mother, and wife who filled the role of confidant and counsel. When she listened, she would take it all in and show so much compassion and encouragement. One always felt supported by Lorraine; she truly was a safe space.
Lorraine treasured her marriage to Kent. He was the love of her life. Lorraine loved Jesus and would not let herself focus on pain. She would say, “Jesus suffered so much more for me and you.”
Lorraine studied and figured out so many things. She was detail oriented, researched, and put together complex things with ease. Lorraine was smart, and if she had a question, she sought out the answer in the fullest fashion.
Lorraine was particularly mindful of ancestry. She loved looking into her family’s heritage and recently traveled to Germany and France to see the homestead of her ancestors. She was a hard worker who took pleasure in pickling, canning, and preserving foods from Kent’s garden.
Lorraine loved to travel and explore new places. She felt that going somewhere new changes your perspective on life. She made a point to take trips and create special memories and bonds with her family. Lorraine enjoyed thoroughly documenting her travels through pictures.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of 33 years, Kent Fontenot of Ville Platte; daughter, Katie Wagner and husband, Jacob of Baton Rouge; sons, Justin Fontenot and wife, Delle of Ville Platte and Brian Fontenot of Lafayette; grandchildren, Evan and Mila; parents, Wilfred and Elaine Leonards of Bunkie; sisters, Lisa McClelland and husband, Johnny of Whiteville, Sarah Ducote and husband, John of Dupont, Stephanie Bartow and husband, Ed of Woodworth; brothers, Damian Leonards and wife, Maxine of Spring Bayou and Joel Leonards and wife, Christie of Whiteville; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine now rests with her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hersey and Bonnie Fontenot.
