Rodney Soileau

VILLE PLATTE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte for Rodney “Tanny” Soileau, who passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at the age of 83.  Father Mitch Guidry will conduct services and burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Rodney “Tanny” Soileau was born in Point Blue on November 11, 1939 to Joe and Olizia Soileau. Rodney was humorous and enjoyed putting a smile on people’s faces.  He served in the United States Merchant Marines and was a commercial fisherman by trade. Rodney was a true “Cajun” as he enjoyed gumbo, seafood, crabbing, playing cards and Cajun music.  Even when not at work, he loved to fish especially on the river.  This special man known as “Tanny” by many will be greatly missed and his memory will be forever cherished by family and friends.

Rodney is survived by his four children, Ruth Hampshire and husband, Tony of Grand Prairie, James Soileau of Zachary, Benny Soileau and companion, Michelle of Hesmer, and Becky Soileau and fiancé, Stephen Bordelon of Pine Prairie; 12 grandchildren, Joe Fontenot, Nicole Hampshire, Adam Hampshire, Jessica Fontenot, Ashley Clem, Charles Soileau, Jr., Chasica Basco, Levine Messer, Christina Murphy, Selena Soileau, Daryl Shaffett, and Kolby Sylvester; 19 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Micky Gotreaux Soileau; parents, Joe and Olizia Soileau; sisters, Mary Weaver, Nita Daigle, and Ruby Soileau; son, Charles Soileau; and grandson, Corey Soileau.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Vile Platte on Monday, December 19, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM.  Visitation will resume Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.  A rosary will be prayed in his honor on Monday evening at 6:00 PM led by Deacon Ben Soileau.
