Terry Whittington

BAYOU CHICOT - Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Bayou Chicot on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM for Terry Wilson Whittington, 84, who passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Bayou Chicot.

Reverend Roger Whittington will officiate the services.

Burial will follow in the Vandenburg Cemetery in Bayou Chicot.

Born on October 16, 1936, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Terry was the fifth child of Wilson William Whittington and Eola Huckaby Whittington. He was a long-time resident of Bayou Chicot and a 1955 graduate of Bayou Chicot High School. Terry was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He worked many years in the oilfield for Two-R Drilling Company, then later he and his wife owned and operated Kid’s World Nursery School on West Oak Street in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Terry was also an avid reader; he especially enjoyed books about the American frontier written by the author Louis L’Amour. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather.

Terry is survived by four sons; Noel Perez and his wife Linda of Lafayette, David Haiko and his wife Lori, of Lafayette, Joseph "Joey" Haiko and Sara of Sulphur, and Mark W. Whittington of Bayou Chicot; and two daughters, Monica Whittington of Lafayette, and Kristi Whittington of Bayou Chicot. Survivors also include three brothers, Merwin Whittington and his wife Viola, Sterling Whittington and his wife Loretta, and Roger Whittington and his wife Carolyn, all of Bayou Chicot, as well as two sisters-in-law, Elaine Whittington and Delores Steadman. He also has seven grandchildren: Terri, Duston, Cort, Hanna, Zane, Summer, and Magen, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Noelie Fontenot Whittington; his parents; step mother, Esther Causey Whittington; two brothers, Sherman and Delmont; one sister, Essie Mae; one granddaughter, Allyson; and one great-granddaughter, Zoe.

Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Bayou Chicot on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and again on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 9:00 am until time of services.

Pianist for the service will be Carolyn Whittington, Terry’s sister-in-law. Pallbearers will be David Haiko, Joseph Haiko, Duston Haiko, Cort Haiko, Zane Fontenot, and Reggie Whittington.
